Scylla Page 9

Chapter 3: Scylla Page 9
A comic page set inside a paneled corporate office. Ben Eberstaff, a man wearing glasses and a yellow-green plaid shirt, stands in front of a desk speaking emphatically while gesturing with one hand. Dr. Ventrik, a bearded man wearing glasses, sits behind the desk working at a laptop as he listens.

In subsequent panels, the conversation continues as Ben references responsibility to clients and contractual obligations, while Ventrik responds from his seat, remaining focused on his work. Close-ups show Ventrik’s face and the laptop screen as he speaks calmly.

The final panels shift attention to Ventrik’s research displayed on the screen, showing dense text and an image of a massive, swirling cloud of movement - glowing eyes and fanged mouths can be seen within. The page closes with Ventrik asking if he can return to his work.

Chapter 03: Scylla – Page 09

This week’s page continues the flashback introduced in Page 8, extending the conversation rather than resolving it. This time, we lean further into memory as a story telling device, keeping the environment intentionally restrained while allowing the ideological conflict between Eberstaff and Ventrik to surface through posture, framing, and contrast. This moment isn’t about escalation, but about exposure.

Character Sketch – The Mime

By | Creative

This sketch is a quiet nod to a figure that’s been hovering at the edges of Dystopia for a long time.

You may recognize The Mime from Dystopia Chronicles, a five-issue series published years ago through 5th Panel Comics. Those stories live outside the current weekly pages, and Jackwraith hasn’t formally introduced the character in the ongoing webcomic. For now, this image exists as a concept sketch only, not a promise, not a spoiler, just a pencil sketch.

If there’s interest in seeing more of this character, or in revisiting The Dystopia Chronicles, we may add all five issues to the Comics collection here on Patreon. That would be presented clearly as legacy material, adjacent to the current series, not required reading.

Let us know what you think over on the Patreon.

The Dystopia evolution – the descent continues

By | Creative Process

If you’re reading this, you’re already part of the signal and you have our heartfelt thanks.

For a while now, the Dystopia newsletter has lived a little apart. Quiet. Independent. Slipping through inboxes with updates from Haven and notes from behind the panels. That’s changing. The monthly Dystopia newsletter will live on our Patreon.

Before alarms start flashing, take a breath. Nothing is being locked away. There’s no paywall. No tiers. No gates. The Patreon is completely free, and moving the newsletter there lets us bring everything together in one place, where the story, the process, and the community can overlap in more interesting ways.

By joining the free Dystopia Patreon, you’ll still receive the newsletter you’re used to, but you’ll also gain access to a lot more of what’s happening:

  • Access to the Dystopia Discord, where readers trade theories, reactions, and ideas

  • Behind-the-scenes art, thumbnails, scripts, and in-progress pages

  • Commentary from Jackwraith and ALFA on the creative process and story decisions

  • Exclusive lore drops and worldbuilding notes that don’t always make it into the comic

  • Invitations to livestreams, Discord hangouts, and community events, where we draw, talk story, and answer questions in real time

If you enjoy slow-burn mysteries, unsettling futures, morally tangled characters, and watching our cyberpunk world building piece by piece, you’re already one of us. Patreon just gives us a better room to gather in.

So if you want to keep receiving the newsletter and step a little deeper into Haven, join us on Patreon. It’s free. It always will be. And it’s where the conversation is heading next.

Step inside. We’re glad you’re coming along for the descent.
