Scylla Page 7

Inside a vast underground chamber where storm drains and pipes converge, Ventrik and Tanya stand in shallow, debris-strewn water as freshly carved tunnels gape open along the walls. Ventrik explains that his calculations suggest the entity they are tracking is moving south, directly toward them, drawn by the concentration of netwights and wraiths above. As he questions why the creature is referred to as “her,” explosions from the city overhead thunder through the chamber, shaking loose rock and sending debris cascading down as a massive blast knocks him backward. The instability of the space mirrors the uncertainty of their mission, culminating in a final, disquieting flashback panel of Ventrik calmly typing at his computer while an unseen voice responds to his concerns with a cold reminder: “That’s not part of the contract.”

Chapter 03: Scylla – Page 07

This page was built around the idea that the environment needed to speak first. A large portion of what’s coming takes place in and around this chamber, and it was important to clearly set the scene before the story starts cutting it apart. The catch basin is a space the characters will have to survive, navigate, and contend with as much as whatever is moving through it.
