Midwife, aborted Page 6

We follow Angie and 8244, synthetically enhanced "midwives" as they encounter staff members dressed in blue medical scrubs. Angie engages these "orderlies" in the hallway, swiftly and lethally subduing two of the uniformed staff who attempt to stop her. One orderly is incapacitated with a sharp strike to the throat and the second is kicked in the face. Through Angie's combat vision that analyzes threats in real time, we can see a third body covered in blood who is thrown into a wall by 8244. 8244 dispatches two orderlies with a scalpel in a blurred high-speed spinning movement. Angie's internal narration reveals their confusion: she recognizes the people as staff, not enemies, but her programming recognizes them as threats. Angie notes that the "nefeshim", flying sprite-like creatures seen in the previous page cannot withstand the midwife combat trance. The final panel shows 8244 emerging from the spinning motion in a sudden stop, arm raised and ready to strike against their fellow midwife.

Midwife, aborted: Chapter 02 – Page 06

We get our first peek at the midwives capabilities this week. This marks the first time in the story that there's been physical combat, which was (admittedly) a great deal of fun. From an art standpoint, pages filled with "talking heads" are more quickly completed, but having the characters engage with one another is welcomed.

Jackwraith and I are finding a cadence to our work that is manageable - Right now, they are completing the script for the third Dystopia chapter and I am maintaining a comfortable buffer between the chapter two pages ready to be published and those I am finishing. My progress continues to be a page per week on average.

In coming weeks, the conflict escalates as the midwives pursue their goal... I look forward to you joining us again - best wishes.
