Creative Notes: We're into the remaining ten pages of Midwife, aborted story, so it's a good point to do some self-introspection. I'm happy with how the creation of pages is evolving. For the second chapter, I've focused more on the panel composition, line variation in the inking, and inclusion of a "texture" line over the colors to add depth (as well as an added layer of color to indicate shadow). I'm seeking a more simplified style, and as such, the heavy use of "hash" lines to define depth that is more common in American superhero books, doesn't work for me. I'll continue to play with the effect in the third chapter. Page layouts continue to be straight forward for the most part. My confidence in laying out the panels and pages is improving, but I don't expect that we'll be seeing a marked shift in panel configurations/layouts as Jackwraith tends to share a more "traditional" mindset (as do I) concerning storytelling.
The pages for chapter two are complete. Prior to sharing the pages, I'll spend a bit of time playing with sound effects or art details, but the work is done. Jackwraith and I are starting on chapter three now, which includes reviews of the scripts, resolving questions that I have in the story, characters, or environment. From that, I'll break down the page layouts and Jackwraith and I will then review those layouts and make adjustments before I begin the pencils. The final page of chapter two will be posted to the website on November 3rd and the the third chapter, Scylla will debut on the 24th of November which provides a measurable (and manageable) timeline to work within.
Overall, I'm feeling very good about where Dyst0pia is and the direction we are heading as well as my personal progress in becoming the artist that I want to be.
